O.C Still frame experimentation

·         Low angle shot in the photo presents the villain in the photo to look taller and therefore more intimidating in stature adding to the horror of the shot.

·         The prop used is a kitchen knife, this weapon is used a lot in horror movies as when people are killed there tends to be more blood and is more gory. The killing becomes a longer more tedious scene.

·         The location and setting of the photo is a modern household, could be a haunted house. The picture is taken down the corridor, the character blocking of the villain is central down the corridor so the villain fills the majority of the width this makes the villain seem more imposing. The narrow corridor and the character blocking of the villain allows villain to fill the shot again making him more intimidating.

·         Lighting and focus on the face is blurred making the villain identity unknown. This adds to the tension and mystery as the figure is not known

·         A blue wash is seen on the photo which is usually associated with horror films. This effect presents a cold and solemn setting creating tension and horror with it.

·         The non-verbal language seen is negative as his head is facing down with one hand in his pocket and the other holding a knife.

·         The costume worn is a dressing gown this adds to the suspense and horror of the photo as a dressing gown is usually associated with relaxing and keeping warm. But as of the wash, props and non-verbal language a different meaning is given, the villain could be seen as possessed as he is wearing normal clothes but acting in a scary manner.

·         The character blocking shows him to be in the centre of the shot, with the dim lighting from the door letting you see the outline of his body and the weapon in his hand. This initiates him been the main focus of the shot as he also fills the majority.
