- Knives used as murder weapons, mainly to emphasise the gore within the film as cutting flesh produces mass amounts of blood, causing the audience to experience the fear factor majorly as they witness more horrific deaths on screen
- Masks are worn by many of the antagonists, creating the sense of hidden identity, therefore we don't know who the human is behind the mask, which also allows us to perceive them as a monster, as we don't necessarily see them as human, e.g. Scream
- Females are often the victim in slasher horror as they are stereotypically represented as more vulnerable than men. As well they are used to create the scenes more sexual, for example they would killed whilst wearing little, for two reasons, to provide enjoyment for the male audience, and to display more gore as more flesh can be seen to be stabbed or cut by the antagonist.
