O.C : Institutional context- The Strangers


The Strangers:

Production:
·         The film was directed by Bryan Bertino who the script was also written by.

·          He felt he could connect to the audience by scaring them. He also expressed an interest in thriller films in the 1970s.

·         Production notes of the film suggest the film was inspired by true events that happened in Bertino’s  life, as a kid a stranger came to his house asking for someone who was not there with other empty houses in the neighbourhood been broken into on the same night

·         His states his main inspiration though came from the book Helter Skelter.
·         The two leading cast members are Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman

·         The film was produced on a $9million budget the filming began in October 2006 and finished early 2007.

·         The Strangers was filmed in Florence, South Carolina

              Ditribution:

 
·         The film was distributed by Rogue Pictures

·         In late July 2007, director Bertino and stars Tyler and Speedman attended San Diego's annual Comic-Con event to promote the film; all three were present for a questions-and-answers panel session, as well as a screening of the film's official teaser trailer

·         March 2008 was when the full trailer was released to the public.

·         Advertisements on TV began in April to build up the May release.
