LM & OC - Audience Research

Purpose

To find out…..

·         What our target audience expect to occur during a slasher film

·         The setting and props that will be most effective for a slasher horror

·         Most suitable characteristics for an antagonist in a slasher horror

·         Which title to use for our film

Methodology

·         We made our questionnaire simply by coming up with ten questions between us that we wanted answered, and then typed them on to a word document.

·         We distributed our questionnaire across our Media class, gaining feedback from 11 people.

·         The questionnaire included both qualitative and quantitative questions, as well as having questions that required a scaled responses, and multiple choice.

Questionnaire

The participants in our questionnaire had to answer the following questions:

1.       Are you a fan of slasher horror?

2.       Name all slasher horror films that you have either watched or are aware of

3.       Which of the following locations would you consider most effective for a slasher horror film to be set in?

4.       Rank the following titles in order of preference for a slasher horror, featuring a psychopathic serial killer?

5.       How significant is it in a slasher horror film, that the protagonist be female?

6.       Identify your preferred characteristics of an antagonist in slasher?

7.       What time of day would you perceive to be most effectual for a slasher horror film to be set in?

8.       What sort of objects would you consider appropriate in the lair of an evil killer antagonist?

9.       How would you expect a psychopathic serial killer to dress?

10.   What kind of mask for an antagonist would you consider to be most effective in a slasher horror film?

Evaluation

From our questionnaire feedback we were able to decide that our antagonist should wear dark clothing with a mask that hides his identity. As well as this we were able to understand the type of character that the audience want to see and that his lair will contain weapons, and writings on the walls. As well as this it seemed that the most effective time to film would be at night, however due to us only having access to the school cameras, we will have to film during the day time, however we will seek to create an effect during editing that gives a dim, gloomy feel to the sequence.
