Camera
Duration
Analysis
Close-up of girls face
0-3
The close-up on jules’ face shows her emotions. She is seen to be screaming so this presents her as desperate and in danger.
Shot-reverse-shot(editing)
Low Angle
4-6
There is a shot-reverse- shot of jules this is to show her been dragged away on the ground and also to show the antagonist in the same shot. The low angle shot is to accentuate the fact she is been dragged as wells as making the antagonist look more intimidating and scary towards the audience.
Shot-reverse-shot(editing)
Low angle
6-8
This is form jules to the man. This shows that the man cannot help jules as she is been dragged away by the antagonist. Low angle is further used to portray the antagonist as intimidating
Over the shoulder shot
8-11
Shows the prop conventional horror movies prop in the back of jules accentuating the brutality of the attack.
 Extreme close-up
11-13
The scene is dark throughout so the antagonists face remained unknown throughout, but the extreme close-up enables the audience to see his face for the first time.
Low angled
Longshot
13-16
This presents jules as much smaller than the antagonist, you able to see Jules fully in contrast to the antagonist where you can just see his outline which is black again further emphasising his size and stature over jules illustrating more horror.
Close up
Shot-reverse shot
Close up

Close up of Jules’ face as she sees another antagonist coming towards her with a saw. There is a close-up of the antagonists face again with his image not clear as it is dark.

Shows the saw pass past Jules’ face, the close up shows her been extremely scared as the saw passes through the shot.
Longshot

This shows two antagonists holding Jules while the prepare to saw her head off. Again the colour of the antagonists contrasts the colour of Jules as they are seen as black and dark whereas Jules is seen to be light in colour and visible
Over the shoulder shot
45-48
This shows Jules’ head in the other girls hands. The antagonist just threw the head and walked off. This is when they get back to the cabin

Sound:
Throughout the scene there is screaming from Jules showing her as desperate and vulnerable as she is in need of help. The music is in the background and represents a brewing  climax to which Jules gets her head chopped off.

Mise-en-scene:
The use of props show a conventional horror movies. As both props used on Jules show blood and gore. With the saw used to cut off her head. Make-up is used on all the antagonists seen in the shot to portray them and dark and scary, with their face rarely revealed throughout the scene. Character blocking when the antagonist are about to saw of her head illustrates Jules as been very vulnerable as she is lower down on her knees begging for mercy. The antagonists are shown surrounding her in a very dominant position further accentuating her vulnerability.

Setting:
The scene is set in the woods which is conventional of horror. Throughout the only light seen is the natural light from the moonlight, the antagonists throughout the scene are shown as shadowed with their appearance limited to the outline of their bodies. The place in which they are saying is a haunted cabin. This again is a conventional horror setting .

 Link to my film:
This specific scene links into my film as of various factors. The location is the one we are going to use for our opening sequence, this is seen as conventional of horror as there is a lot of uncertainty and different things that can happen in the woods. Although the antagonist will be different in our film the way that he is presented in Cabin in the Woods will also be similar. As his identity will be restricted with few glimpses of his face been scene. With him been presented as intimidating and scary. Also the antagonist is shadowed throughout which has given me ideas about the way we present our antagonist to the audience. The props used are very conventional of horror and could be used in our opening, they are weapons that are used to emphasises blood and gore which is what makes a film scary.
